The Formation Story
What is TPR?
The Triangle Prayer Room is a space in the community where believers in Jesus can come to worship, pray, and spend time with the Lord in a peaceful, distraction-free environment. We desire the Lord to be glorified and see prayers going forth morning, noon, and night according to the priestly life of Daniel, and the Priesthood functioning under David’s Tabernacle (1 Chr. 16; Psalm 55:17).

Prayer is God’s will. We agree with God’s will in our hearts, and pray His will into existence over a geographical region and the hearts within. Prayer is when we use our God–given strength to create His will into existence. Like a child helping their parents with a monumental task, we partner with the will of God unto our hearts coming alive and His Kingdom come.

What is the History of Prayer in Raleigh and the surrounding areas?

Prayer in the Raleigh region has taken many shapes and forms through the years. As individuals have come through the generations lifting up their heartfelt prayers, and churches have gathered across political and denominational lines at the cross of Christ. This is the Hebrews 11 synergy of the ages, our prayers linking arms with those that have gone before, and spurring on those generations that will come after us. All this happens while impacting the lives of those people around us. Also, with the universities in our area, God has brought the nations to our doorstep, and together we lift up our voices from every tribe and tongue, asking for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done.

Most recently, many powerful groups have continued on in this area, and their impact will be felt for generations. Most notably, Don Rayno, a university teacher, who left teaching to pursue building prayer in this region. He started what is known as “Concert of Prayer”, where people from the combined region gather together in unified prayer in a large auditorium and with one voice, asking for God’s kingdom to come and His will to be done. The concert of prayer is not a one-day event; instead, it was a continuation of hundreds of humble daily and weekly prayer meetings across the region.

The Triangle Prayer Room is one of those faithful, humble, prayer meetings that has continued reaching out to heaven from this region. Ours is not the story of one, but the story of hundreds that said ‘yes’ and took their stand upon the wall of intercession. One such story is from a group called the Garner Prayer Furnace. Over 25 years ago, they faithfully gathered for almost a decade, lifting up their voices in fervent intercession for the RDU region and the nations. Hundreds joined those meetings throughout their ten years from a multitude of churches, while a few remained faithful to keep the flame of intercession going on a daily basis.

Where is TPR in this story of Prayer?

Out of this, a group of students and leaders came to a prayer meeting that moved near the NC State University campus. At this time, prayer flourished, largely under the direction of Niko Peele, leader of Ignite Movement. There were prayer meetings on campus, through the night, and at strategic times and places. During that season, thousands of songs and prayers from countless people, all united from different churches, went up to the Throne of God in Heaven, all asking God’s will to be done and His Kingdom to come. Then one day, God brought one person to help keep things moving.

To say that one person built prayer in the RDU region would not be true. However, in the story of the Triangle Prayer Room, our humble story had many powerful moments. One such moment came when Niko, Ben, and a dozen others were gathered in morning prayer and really felt that God wanted to shift things and build in a more strategic way. Enter Josh Splinter. Literally, Josh walked through the door of the prayer room that day.

Josh was a man who grew up in military school, then went to school at Virginia Military Institute, entered the armed forces, and was a veteran. He is married to an amazing wife and is a father to three. He and his wife had moved from Texas to Raleigh because God had invited them to come and help build citywide prayer. When they arrived, God supernaturally told him to come to a meeting, which was our humble meeting. We all agreed Josh was truly an answer to prayer.

Josh quickly asserted his God-given talents and brought strength to build in that season. He gave himself to join the 6 am prayer room time, and also joined multiple prayer groups across the season. Then Covid happened.

When COVID-19 happened, we quickly gathered online multiple times throughout the day so that we could sustain the community, while making sure fervent, effective prayer continued. But eventually, the world began to open again, and God opened up another door for us as we needed a new place to host day and night prayer.

We entered the doors of an amazing church in Cary, and also added four full-time staff. Caroline Blinson, who has been faithful to stand, watch, and pray for God’s will in this region while using her creative talents to reach the next generation for Christ. Jacob Yelton, a faithful, faithful friend of God, whom we dubbed the ‘sweet Psalmist of Raleigh’. Tyrone Watson, a tremendous worship, teacher, and discipleship leader, is helping to keep things moving, specifically in the Family of God worship and prayer circle. And Natalie Watson, who can write, sing, and lead like an angel. Sadly, Josh had transitioned out of the prayer room to start a new job, but he continued to help organize and build unified prayer across the region. We stayed faithful here until God moved us to the next place.

Where is TPR today?

The next stop, and our current location, is in Garner off Route 70 at Garner Christian Fellowship. The faithful saints of this church opened the doors wide and joined us, along with many other churches, in the pursuit of day and night prayer.
